THE FILLMORE
Remembered today mainly for its rock & roll auditorium, the Fillmore Disctrict is one of the great cautionary tales of American urban life. From the wholesale removal of Japanese Americans during World War II, to the jazz heyday of the 1950's, to the bulldozers of urban renewal, the Fillmore has seen its share of drama.
Now THE FILLMORE brings to life the many worlds of the neighborhood, from the music of Count Basie, John Handy and the Jefferson Airplane to the bittersweet memories of the residents who fought for the survival of one of the nation's premiere Afican American communities.
